Street Crimes Down In Southeast Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― There's encouraging news regarding street crimes in Southeast Baltimore. From Butcher's Hill to Canton, Fells Point to Little Italy, Patterson Park to Greektown, the numbers are going down.

"Since the formation of the Southeastern District Operations Robbery Squad in January 2008, there have been 37 fewer street crimes this year compared to 2007," Southeastern District Deputy Major William Davis told Richard Sher.

Hannah Rowley was attacked walking home through Patterson Park.

"It was terrible. Two kids came up from behind and grabbed my scarf and I was choking. The robbery squad came to our house right away, and spent three hours with my husband and me. By the end of that weekend, they had caught one of the kids, and returned some of my stolen things," she said.

"The investigation into Hannah's robbery has perhaps helped solve 15 other robberies," said Davis.

Vanessa Summerville's 15-year-old son is charged as a juvenile with two armed robberies of a grocery store.

"The robbery squad officers are very nice. They finally got me some help for my son," she said.
