SMITHSBURG, Md. (AP) ―

Police from Howard County found materials used for making explosives near Smithsburg.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating.

Howard County Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn says officers found the materials when they served a warrant Wednesday in the 22000-block of Troy Lane.

The officers were investigating stolen laptop computers.

ATF spokeswoman Clare Weber says agents found one pipe bomb and parts of two others.

She says evidence gathered was sent to the ATF lab in Beltsville for analysis.
