Park Heights Group Helps Pinned Woman Escape

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
There were some anxious moments in Northwest Baltimore Monday morning after a woman became pinned between her mini-van and another car.
Ron Matz reports emergency responders from a community group were on the scene in minutes to help before city firefighters arrived.
The dramatic scene unfolded near the intersection of Falstaff and Reisterstown Roads around 9 a.m.
The woman driving a mini-van with her four children inside became trapped between her vehicle and another car.
Fire investigators say the woman accidentally put her vehicle in "drive," and stepped out to retrieve some personal belongings.
"Just fear because it could happen to me because I drive carpool every day and I have a lot of kids in my car. It's a wake-up call to be extra careful," said Zakah Glaser, a Northwest Baltimore resident.
Members of the Park Heights community group, Hatzalah, were first on the scene. All are trained in basic life support. Hatzalah is the Hebrew word for "save." The group has about 30 members.
"We all do different things. This is not our job. When we get dispatched, we drop everything and we run and respond to the calls," said David Heyman with Hatzalah. "I feel as if we are messengers of God. With God's help we're able to help other people and to us that's a blessing."
The injured woman is being treated at Sinai Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Her children were not injured.
Hatzalah is funded by community donations.
