Funeral services were held Saturday for Stephen Bunker, the pilot killed in the crash of a state Medevac helicopter last weekend.
Ron Matz reports hundreds turned out for the gathering in Charles County.
"He was dedicated to his profession. He wanted to fly, paid his own way to flight school and he fulfilled his dreams," said Vernon Herron.
Hundreds of officers from all over the state and country came to pay their final respects.
Troopers from San Antonio came to honor Stephen Bunker. It was a 28-hour drive.
A family remembered a pilot and paramedic, as well as the young woman they were trying to save.
"It never gets any easier," said Howard County Police Captain Tara Nelson. "I was at Trooper Lippy's funeral yesterday also and I was quite moved."
Moving images from final goodbyes to our local heroes.
"He did it for many years. He left the state police and came back as a civilian pilot because he still wanted to serve. It's tragic but he'll always be remembered as a hero," Herron said.
