Prison Inmates Sew Pillowcases For Cancer Charity
CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) ―
The Maryland Division of Correction says five inmates at a maximum-security prison near Cumberland have sewn nearly 400 brightly colored pillowcases for children in hospital cancer units.
Western Correctional Institution donated the pillowcases Monday to Conkerr Cancer, a charity in Wayne, Pa., founded by Cindy Kerr, whose son died at 17 of bone cancer.
The project was started by Assistant Warden Harry Murphy, a cancer survivor.
Murphy told the inmates that their labors will bring a smile to children in life-changing circumstances.
