Pig Survives Neglect And Becomes Star

Hampstead, Md. (WJZ) ― It has been six months since health officials raided a farm in New Windsor, Carroll County, and found scores of carcasses and sick or dying pigs infected with trichinosis.

Charges of animal cruelty and neglect have been filed against the owner of the farm.

Only one pig survived, without disease. His name is Porkadot, who has been adopted by Allysia Cirka, and lives on her Lucky Stars Country Kennels in Hampstead.

Cirka told WJZ's Richard Sher Porkadot's story. "When we adopted Porkadot in October, he weighed 80 pounds. Today he's just under 200!"

Porkadot is learning tricks, and enjoys living with the other rescued animals on the farm.

"At first there was a concern that Porkadot might also be infected, but all of the tests were negative. Porkadot's like another member of our family," Cirka said.
