Md. Couple's 120-Foot Windmill Request Approved

PHOENIX, Md. (AP) ―

Baltimore County has approved plans by a couple to put a 120-foot windmill on their Phoenix farm, which they hope to power from clean and renewable energy sources.

County zoning officials say the request by Barry and Urszula Antonelli is the first in the county for a large energy-producing windmill.

So-called `accessory structures' in Baltimore County are limited to 15-feet and neighbors have expressed concerns the windmill would mar the landscape and create noise.

Baltimore County's zoning commissioner said he hopes the decision released Friday will "forge new ground" in alternative, renewable energy.

Several neighbors said they plan to file an appeal Monday.

Earlier this year, Carroll County became the first jurisdiction in Maryland to allow wind turbines in private yards.
