Emmitsburg Panel Votes Down Pay Raise Again
EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) ―
Commissioners have voted down a pay raise for themselves and the mayor, the second such action in a month.
Last week's proposal -- the most recent -- would have raised commissioners' annual pay to $4,800 from $4,000, and the mayor's to $9,500 from $8,000. The move would have coincided with cost-of-living raises given to town workers over the last six years.
Elected officials' salaries have been the same since 2002. Mayor Jim Hoover proposed increasing salaries by 25 percent at a June 2 town meeting.
The motion ended in a tie vote.
