Talks Between Orioles & Markakis Are On Hold

BALTIMORE (AP) ― The Baltimore Orioles and right field Nick Markakis have put their contract extension talks on hiatus.

Markakis' agent Jamie Murphy tells The (Baltimore) Sun he expects the negotiations to resume in late January, when the two sides exchange filings for salary arbitration.

Murphy and Orioles president Andy MacPhail say the sides exchanged proposals last week but did not reach an agreement.

Murphy says he and Markakis want to observe developments in this year's free-agent market before resuming the talks.
