Baltimore City Police shot and killed a man in Northeast Baltimore Wednesday.
A police officer shot and killed a man Wednesday in Northeast Baltimore after a brief struggle.
Jessica Kartalija reports it happened around noon at Northern Parkway and McClean Boulevard.
Police spokesman Sterling Clifford says the officer was questioning the man at a shopping center.
According to police, the man believed to be in his mid-20s had something suspicious in his hand.
Clifford says the officer shot the man out of fear for his safety after the two began to struggle.
"If someone is in a place acting suspiciously, if there are drugs or weapons visible, a police officer can stop them, find out what they are doing," Clifford said. "He stopped the suspect for a field interview. The suspect was carrying drugs."
Witnesses say at least four shots were fired. Police are interviewing them.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead about 1:30 p.m.
The officer wasn't injured, but has been put on administrative leave.
The investigation will also determine what kind of drugs the suspect may have been carrying when he was shot.
No weapon was found at the scene.
