Obama Picks Up More Superdelegates
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
The movement of Democratic superdelegates to presidential hopeful Barack Obama is gaining steam with the endorsement of the influential American Federation of Government Employees union.
AFGE President John Gage says he believes his union's members recognize the enthusiasm and vitality behind Senator Obama's campaign.
Gage is a previously uncommitted Maryland superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention and says he is also personally endorsing Obama.
Obama's endorsements from superdelegates has picked up sharply since Tuesday, when he soundly defeated Clinton in North Carolina's primary and held her to a narrow victory in Indiana.
Maryland has 27 Democratic superdelegates -- party and elected officials who automatically attend the party's convention and are free to support whomever they choose. In addition, the state party has chosen two "add-on" delegates who are free to decide whom to support. Here's a list of superdelegates who have announced support for a candidate and who remain undeclared.
