Democratic Leaders In Md. Endorse Obama

WASHINGTON (WJZ) ― Senator Barack Obama is picking up more supporters in his race for the White House. The flood of superdelegates is what really put Senator Barack Obama over the edge.

Adam May reports one of the very last ones to make a decision in the country was Maryland's Sen. Ben Cardin.  Senator Cardin spoke at the Democratic National Headquarters Wednesday.

"Today I announced my support for Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.  I am very proud to support him. I look forward to campaigning for Senator Obama. I look forward to working and doing everything I can to make sure he is the next president of the United States," said Senator Ben Cardin.

Cardin went on to say he thought it would be very wise to pick Senator Hillary Clinton as his running mate, giving her a spot as vice president.

Governor Martin O'Malley was also a big Clinton supporter. Governor O'Malley and Mayor Sheila Dixon stated they too look forward to helping Obama on the campaign trail.

Senator Cardin said he waited so long to announce his decision because he did not want to influence voters in other states.

Superdelegate Belkis "Bel" Leong-Hong says she will also endorse the Illinois senator. Her decision comes after talking to Obama about how he plans to address issues of concern to the nation's Asian-American community.
