K-Swift died earlier this week after she suffered neck injuries in her pool.
Tears and heartbreak for family and fans of pioneering Baltimore DJ K-Swift during a viewing honoring her memory.
Mike Schuh reports K-Swift's mother spoke about her daughter at the viewing held in West Baltimore.
An estimated 1,000 people paid their respects to K-Swift in the first of three viewings before her funeral on Saturday.
They came from every corner of the metro Baltimore area. Young and old, hip-hop, R&B and jazz fans, as well as family and friends, lined up outside Brown Funeral home to say thank you.
Khia Edgerton's mother stayed around as long as she could to return the sentiment.
"It is amazing, and it makes me feel so good that this child I gave birth to has touched so many souls in this city," said Juanita Edgerton.
K-Swift's sudden death from a dive in her backyard swimming pool shook the hip-hop community up and down the East Coast.
Eyewitness News obtained a copy of the 911 tape.
Operator: "What happened?"
Caller: "Um, someone's in the pool. I think she hit her head. She's unconscious."
Operator: "She fell you said?"
Caller: "Yes."
Operator: "How old is she?"
Caller: "She's 28."
Operator: "Is she conscious at this time?"
Caller: "No, not at all."
The medical examiner ruled the death accidental. Autopsy results show 29-year-old Khia Edgerton died after breaking her neck when she hit her head during the dive.
Mixing music is what K-Swift did best. She was Maryland's first female mix coordinator credited with making Baltimore club music popular nationwide.
For the next two days, K-Swift fans want to honor her family and legacy before their final goodbye.
That will come with a funeral on Saturday. Until then, fans plan to celebrate her life and music.
"It's a real tragic thing that happened to her, and I just feel sorry. My empathy goes out to her family," said Michael Manning.
"Just want her family to know as you can see, she's truly loved and truly known. And God be with you," said Tiffany.
Another viewing will be held Friday as well as a memorial service from 2 to 8 p.m. at the New Shiloh Baptist Church on North Monroe Street.
Then on Saturday, another viewing will be held at Morgan State University beginning at 10 a.m. That's followed by a service in the Murphy Fine Arts Center on East Cold Spring Lane.
