Naval Academy Identifies Midshipman Who Died

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ― The Naval Academy has identified the midshipman who died Monday from complications from an infection of Nieserra meningitis.

An academy spokeswoman says Midshipman 4th Class Frederick H. Eissler, 20, of West Chester, Pa., had the bacteria associated with bacterial meningitis.

Eissler died Monday evening at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was stricken ill on Nov. 12.

The academy spokeswoman says 63 midshipmen and staff who had been near Eissler have been given antibiotics as a precaution.

Eissler was a member of the 22nd Company and took part in intramural sports.

A funeral will be conducted Friday at noon at the Naval Academy Chapel.
