Cleanup Planned For Mine Drainage Creek In Garrett

BLOOMINGTON, Md. (AP) ― The Maryland Bureau of Mines is leading a $1.2 million project to restore a Garrett County creek.

Authorities say Aaron Run near Bloomington as been spoiled by four decades as a sluice for acid mine drainage. State biologist Alan Heft says the hope is that the creek can recover by next year and be stocked with wild brook trout from lower Savage River.

Lime will be used to neutralize the acid, allowing the water to become habitable.
