Family Offers Reward In Hit-And-Run Case

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ― The search for a driver in a hit-and-run accident leads one Baltimore family to put up a reward for more information.

Sally Thorner reports the victim is still fighting for his life at Shock Trauma.

Inside Shock Trauma, Nelson and Kimberly Thompson's son Michael fights to stay alive.

"I really had to hold back.  I had every emotion--anger, fear, frustration--just everything you can imagine," Kimberly said.

There are tubes and oxygen that help him breathe.

Police say a hit-and-run driver struck Michael Tuesday night as the 18-year-old crossed Perring Parkway at McClean Boulevard.

The Thompsons believe the driver was in a U-Haul van or something similar.

Witnesses say the driver stopped, but soon took off and never looked back for Michael.

"I was just devastated to know that someone would do such a thing.  I understand that accidents can happen.  I just can't fathom that people could just leave someone in the road after they hit them," Nelson Thompson said.

Thompson says one driver stopped her car after seeing the accident and used her car to block any other cars from hitting his son.  Now he's offering a $5,000 reward for any information.

"He's my son.  There's nothing I wouldn't do for him.  I feel as though sometimes it requires a little initiative for some people to take an extra step forward," he said.

The Thompsons fear their son's senior year at Parkville High School may be ruined unless someone with some information is willing to speak up.

"I just hope that person or someone who knows them will come forward and let us know for some type of closure for us," Nelson Thompson said.

Michael Thompson is in guarded condition at Shock Trauma.  If you have any information on the hit-and-run, call Baltimore County police.
