Metro Prepares For Hanna With Sandbags, Chain Saws
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
Metro is preparing for the arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna by bringing sandbags to flood-prone stations.
The transit agency also is monitoring drainage pumping stations and says its staff will have chain saws ready to remove trees that fall across tracks.
Officials say they are doing their best to prevent water damage. f water reaches the electrified third rail, trains won't be able to operate.
In the event of sustained winds of 40 mph or more, Metro says it could suspend rail and bus service as a precaution. The agency suspended service due to high winds during Hurricane Isabel in September 2003.
