Lawmakers Recommend Changes To Medevac Program

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ― A group of lawmakers has approved a preliminary list of recommended changes to Maryland's Medevac helicopter program.

The lawmakers plan to recommend that state police fly by the same regulations as commercial programs.

They also say the program should seek accreditation from a Medevac industry trade group. That would mean adding a second medical provider to all medical flights at a cost of about $2.26 million a year.

House Speaker Michael Busch convened the group of legislators last month in response to a crash last September in Prince George's County that killed four people.

The group plans to meet Monday to vote on its recommendations, which will then be released in a report as early as Tuesday.
