Fundraiser For Medevac Paramedic Killed In Crash
TOWSON, Md. (CBS) ―
The family of a flight paramedic killed in the state's deadliest medevac crash in history gathered Saturday afternoon for a fundraiser.
The paramedic's six-month old daughter, Madison Lippy, was the guest of honor at the fundraiser, held at the Green Turtle Pub in Towson.
A silent auction was held for a couple of hours to help Madison, or "Maddie" as her family calls her, start a college fund.
The family remembers Maddie's father, Mickey Lippy.
"Mickey is in Maddie," said Mickey's mother, Wilma. "She is cherished by all of us."
Sports memorabilia and various other gifts were auctioned off.
Friends and workers at the Green Turtle say they're dedicated to perserving Mickey's legacy to show everyone what a good guy he was.
The medevac crash in which Lippy was killed has sparked an intense debate over the future of the medevac program. Some critics say it should be privatized or revamped. Others stand behind the aviation unit, run by the State Police.
Lippy's mother spoke about what her son was probably thinking on the night in September, when he and three others on board the helicopter were killed.
"My son was up doing the job he loved," she said. "They would have never gone up that night if he didn't feel they could come back."
Wilma Lippy said she still supports the medevac program, though she says it needs improvements.
"My hope is that they get funding for the helicopters," she said. "They need new helicopters."
To make a donation to the Lippy family, you can send a check made out to "American Funds" with "Madison Lippy" in the memo to:
