Medevac Accident Survivor Out Of The Hospital

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The only survivor of the deadliest medical helicopter crash in Maryland is out of the hospital.

The Medevac chopper crashed during bad weather back in September in District Heights, Prince George's County.  Now a panel of experts is meeting in Baltimore to discuss medical helicopter safety.

Mary Bubala has more on the release of Jordan Wells, the lone survivor.  She was released from Shock Trauma on Monday.

This is the first time the 18-year-old has spoken with the media and she says she's still processing everything that is going on.  This poised young woman had no trouble articulating the worst experience of her life.

"I was very scared and alone and I was in a lot of pain.  I prayed to God that I would be saved," Wells said.

Jordan and her best friend Ashley were being transported by helicopter after a car crash in Waldorf.  Four people died and Jordan was the only survivor.

"All I really remember was I felt the helicopter hit some trees, like branches and stuff.  Then all of a sudden I blanked out and the next thing I remember was waking up in the woods, on the ground," she said.  "There were pieces of the helicopter around me."

"She's just been terrific.  She's had a great attitude.  I'm just so proud of my daughter," said Scott Wells, Jordan's dad.

Jordan wears a bracelet to remember those who didn't survive.

"I'm glad, of course, that I lived, but I regret that everyone died.  It makes me sad," she said.

When asked if she had anything else to share, she spoke of the intense investigation her accident had sparked.

"Find what's wrong with these helicopters so this doesn't happen again and someone else has to go through what I went through," she said.

Jordan's doctor, Dr. Thomas Scalea, says it will be a six to 12 month rehabilitation for Jordan.  She had her right foot amputated.
