Lawmakers Hear Plans For Medevac Changes
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ―
The head of the Maryland State Police Aviation Command has outlined some proposed changes to the state's medevac system to a panel of lawmakers.
Major A.J. McAndrew says he would support having two-pilot crews on helicopters.
He told lawmakers Thursday that having a second pilot on the medevac that crashed in September, killing four of five people aboard, could have prevented the accident.
McAndrew also says he supports requiring the state's medevac system to comply with more stringent federal aviation standards.
But McAndrew opposed some of the changes proposed by two state senators, including having private certified helicopter providers submit bids on the operation.
