Statement From Mayor Dixon's Attorney

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Mayor Sheila Dixon's attorney, Dale Kelberman, released a statement on her behalf about the investigation at her house Tuesday.

"This morning agents of the State Prosecutor's Office executed a search warrant at approximately 6:30 a.m. at Mayor Dixon's residence. Mayor Dixon was home with her two teenage children.

The agents seized various documents from her residence.  We have not yet seen the affidavit in support of the search warrant so we don't know what was authorized or why.  The mayor allowed the agents to execute the warrant and she left the premises to allow them to conduct their search unfettered.

This is yet another step in an investigation that has gone on now for more than two years.  The investigation began as a result of questions raised by the Baltimore Sun in articles relating to a computer consulting contract for the Baltimore City Council. The State Prosecutor's investigation has resulted in a guilty plea by Dale Clark for failing to file tax returns. Mayor Dixon had nothing to do with Mr. Clark's tax returns and that investigation turned up no evidence that any city funds were missed or lost. In addition, the original articles focused upon Mayor Dixon's sister's relationship with Mildred Boyer, who owned a minority business company.  Ms. Boyer has pleaded guilty to defrauding a bank and a third party, again without any affect on the city's finances and without any involvement or relationship to Mayor Dixon.

The public should be aware of the State Prosecutor's reports for the last couple of years, which disclose that the State Prosecutor has spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on investigations which went nowhere. This is another example of those.

The State Prosecutor has no limitation on the extent to which he can conduct an investigation of this type except his judgment. We leave to the public the verdict on what they think of that judgment."
