Gospel Singing Duo Mary Mary Comes To Annapolis
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
The group with the #1 Gospel album of the year is in town.
Mary Bubala talked to Mary Mary, the urban gospel singing duo about singing, sisterhood and success.
Mary Mary's Grammy-winning single from their acclaimed album, "The Sound," is called "Get Up." It's a song with a great groove and powerful message for our time.
"No more excuses, no more reasons why you can't just make life happen, do your absolute best, but it won't happen unless you first get up," said Erica Campbell, Mary Mary.
"Everyone is being affected by what's going on in our world. What do you do?Do you lose hope or do you find a way to deal with your situation? How can I make it better, and there is a way," said Tina Campbell with Mary Mary.
The duo Mary Mary is really Tina and Erica Campbell who are real-life sisters.
Mary Mary is hitting the stage for the first time since the duo took home this year's Grammy for Best Gospel performance.
"There is a song for every possible emotion--when you are in love, falling out of love, happy, confused, inspired. So to be able to be on stage and give that to people is really priceless," said Erica Campbell.
"There's so much passion, and I just really enjoy music. I am in concert all day long. I give the best concerts at the house, in my kitchen with a spoon, laughing," said Tina Campbell.
Erica and Tina got their start in a church choir. It's been accolades and awards ever since. Now, they're helping find the next stars of urban gospel as judges on BET's "Sunday's Best."
Mary Mary's performance at Rams Head in Annapolis is sold out Tuesday night.
The duo will be in our region again later in the month. This time the sisters will be performing in Alexandria, Va.
