Order To Be Issued On Electricity Market Rules

BALTIMORE (AP) ― A federal commission is siding with Maryland regulators in a complaint about wholesale electricity market rules.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has found that the operator of the electricity grid covering Maryland and 13 other states was "unjust and unreasonable" to exempt some generators from price cap rules.

The Maryland Public Service Commission says PJM's rules cost Maryland ratepayers about $87.5 million in 2006.

The PSC says federal action will save ratepayers hundreds of millions of dollars in future years.

The PSC filed a complaint against PJM in January.

The PSC alleged it was unfair for the operator to allow some power generators to charge excessive prices due to a lack of competition.
