Police Find Marijuana Plants In Park

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) ―

Baltimore police have discovered 63 marijuana plants near a stream in Gwynns Falls Park. Officials say the site was so well hidden that the plants could only be seen from a helicopter.

Sally Thorner reports police ripped up and confiscated the six-foot-tall plants, which could each produce about one pound of marijuana. Officers say each bundle is worth about $1,000 on the street.

The crop was neatly planted in rows, attached to stakes. Police also found gardening tools under a tarp.

Officers say an observer in a police helicopter first saw the plants two weeks ago and told Sergeant Osborne Robinson, head of the Gwynns Falls trail unit. A second flyover was done and Robinson says officers went in Tuesday to get the plants.
