Man Shot In Carney While Changing Tire

CARNEY, Md. (WJZ) ― Baltimore County Police are investigating a shooting in Carney.

Weijia Jiang reports it happened just before 6 a.m. on Shawnee Court at the Doncaster Village Apartment complex.

Police say a 27-year-old man was changing a tire outside his apartment complex when a suspect approached him and attempted to shoot him.

The gun misfired. The victim began running away from the suspect toward the apartment building. The suspect was then able to fire the gun several times and one of those shots hit the victim in the back.
Neighbor Adam Olert says he saw the victim at his third floor apartment after the shooting. Olert says by that point the victim had collapsed on his side.

"Went upstairs and saw the guy on the ground, shot in the kidney area.  It was definitely wild to hear and see the guy on the ground just laying there," said Olert.

Police collected multiple shell casings at the scene.

The victim's trunk was open at the time of the shooting.

Witnesses say the suspect was wearing a black ski mask. Police on the scene say it is an apparent robbery.

"This was probably targeted. It doesn't appear to us to be a random act.  That's not to say the suspect knew the victim or the victim knew the suspect," said Cpl. Mike Hill with Baltimore County Police.

The victim was taken to Shock Trauma.  He is in serious but stable condition. His injuries are non-life threatening.
