Police Issue Warning To Balt. Co. Neighborhood

LOCH RAVEN, Md. (WJZ) ― Police are warning residents in one Baltimore County neighborhood to be on alert.  There have reportedly been a string of similar hold-ups there and police believe they are related.

Peggy Lee spoke with neighbors about the assaults.

Late Nov. 3, Baltimore County Police say two people approached a man walking in an alley behind Chestnut Oak Road.  Police say one person grabbed the man as the second took his wallet and cell phone.

"We walk late at night," Tammie Pensyl said.  "We've just been staying up by the houses and staying out of the alleys, because evidently they've done it a lot."

Police say this is the third hold-up in the Loch Raven Heights area.

On Oct. 29, four men attempted to rob a man in an alley near White Oak Road.  The man told officers two men acted as look-outs and a third man grabbed him as the fourth demanded money and his cell phone.  They fled when the man said he had neither.

A half hour later, police say the same thing happened to a couple walking in an alley near Glen Keith Boulevard.  Police say two men demanded money from them but ran away after finding none.

"In two of these, it was just attempted robberies because they did not get any property from the person, but in one of them we also have two look-outs that are described to us by the victim, so we're looking for anywhere from two to four people," said Cpl. Mike Hill, Baltimore County Police spokesperson.

"This makes me think twice about how I'm going to get home because I'm at school late a lot of times," said Portia Bonds.

Baltimore County Police say they haven't had any reported hold-ups since that one from Nov. 3, but they want people to be watching where they're walking.

Police say to walk in well-lit and well-traveled areas.
