Police Investigate Murdered Kidnapping Victim

WHITE MARSH, Md. (WJZ) ― Baltimore County police are investigating the homicide of a man kidnapped earlier this week.

The body of 26-year-old Jeryl Anthony Singleterry was found by police Wednesday, after residents reported a van parked in their White Marsh area neighborhood that matched a description of the one police were looking for.

Singleterry was last seen around 4:45 pm Monday driving away from his grandmother's home on East Hoffman Street in Baltimore. He was driving a 1996 green Town and Country minivan with tinted windows.

Singleterry and a man who may have been his kidnapper contacted Singleterry's family several times by phone Monday night and gave them instructions for ransom money drop-offs.

The family did as they were instructed -- dropping off tens of thousands of dollars in cash at sites around Baltimore County. But they didn't hear from Singleterry after 9 pm Monday and contacted police Tuesday.

Police are now trying to figure out whether Singleterry was killed before or after the ransom was paid.

Thursday afternoon Eyewitness News' Mike Hellgren spoke to one of the neighbors who saw the van on Monday night. "The headlights were on and it appeared to be running," said Mike Compton. "Next thing I know, they turned the lights off, so I assumed it was people visiting."

Police are not sure if the suspect drove around to find a spot, or if he or she knew the area. Either way, Wednesday's disturbing discovery has residents of the quiet, partly-wooded neighborhood on edge. "When [my wife] woke up, she was thinking about it and having a hard time sleeping."

Police still have no suspect description and no motive. Crimestoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for anyone with information on the case. Call 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
