Hip-Hop Road Show Stops In Maryland
by Ron Matz
Baltimore, MD (WJZ) ―
There's been a decline in interest in Math and the Sciences in schools in recent years. Educators and others are trying to change that with the Hip-Hop Road Show "FMA", which stopped in Baltimore County.
The Hip Hop Road Show is a science/hip hop concert designed to inspire middle school students to pursue careers in Math, Engineering, and the sciences.
There was hands on experience for students at Deep Creek Middle School in Essex as the show takes a hip approach to Sir Isaac Newton and his three laws of motion.
The show is a joint effort of NASA and Honeywell, hoping to inspire the next generation.
WJZ'S Ron Matz spoke to a member of the Honeywell Corp. "Honeywell as a company is trying to send a message to the community, that we really need to bring more science and engineering to our young kids." said Shuby Ambardekar.
County Executive Jim Smith took a pie in the face to make a point.
The show hopes to spur interest in science and math.
"I liked it and learned all the laws of motion. It was cool and fun." said eight grader Morgan Smith.
The show has already traveled 30 thousand miles in 34 states, reaching more that 100 thousand students in more than 200 schools across the country.
