O.C. Approves Carbon Monoxide Detectors

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) ― The Ocean City Town Council has approved an ordinance requiring that carbon monoxide detectors be installed in some buildings.

The measure had the backing of the fire marshal and was drafted after the deaths last June of a 40-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter at a motel on 23rd Street. Carbon monoxide leaked from a water heater into their room. The hotel was not equipped with carbon monoxide detectors.

The ordinance requires existing motels, hotels and condominium buildings to install the detectors within two years. The detectors will also be required in new single-family homes and duplexes.
