New Dog Diet Pills On The Market
by Kathryn Brown
(WJZ)
We all know there are diet pills to help humans lose weight, but now the Food and Drug Administration is stamping its approval on the first weight loss drug for dogs.
Slentrol is the name of the drug and it's given to overweight dogs, once a day to reduce the appetite.
WJZ's Kathryn Brown was out talking to dog owners about exercise plans for pets.
Jennifer Land, a dog owner says, "We run in the morning and we walk here every night."
Veterinarians say 40 percent of dogs don't get enough exercise and become obese, which can lead to health problems like diabetes and joint pain.
If you think your dog is overweight, check and see by running your hands down their side. By doing this you should feel indentations between their ribs. If not, that could be a sign of obesity.
Veterinarians still recommend plenty of exercise for pets to stay healthy.
