Caught on tape. A brazen daylight stabbing caused chaos in downtown Baltimore and left two victims in the hospital with serious wounds.
Now police have arrested 15-year-old Sharee Carter, who had bail denied Thursday.
Mike Hellgren reports
Exclusive WJZ video helped solve the case.
The teenage girl in custody faces adult charges that could land her in prison for life after the crime that shut down the light rail and created panic in one of the busiest areas of downtown Baltimore.
It unfolded back in May at Howard and Fayette Streets near Lexington Market and the Hippodrome.
The downtown area of the city is usually busy, filled with buses and pedestrians. It also is the location of a light rail stop.
Police have charged the teen with attempted murder and now believe she's also behind another brutal stabbing in Cherry Hill.
On the tape, you can hear the sounds of the vicious fighting. It was a fast, terrifying brawl that paralyzed downtown Baltimore on May 7.
The video showed a person in green heading to the center of the melee with a sharp object in hand. Police say it was a knife.
She raised it in the air and it appeared to plunge down into the victim, hitting her just inches from her spine.
After a search lasting months,
WJZ cameras were rolling as police lead 15-year-old Sharee Carter into custody. She faces adult charges, including attempted murder and assault.
"It's just disheartening to see young people resolving their conflicts in this way, and there's a definite need in this community, adults and children alike, to practice civility," said Jawauna Greene, MTA spokesperson.
"Just the fact that the Howard Street stabbing was caught on video, it did make it easier for detectives to find the identity of her," said Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.
Carter is the second teenage girl arrested in this case. Just weeks after the stabbing, investigators took 17-year-old high school student Chifonne Frazier into custody.
They say she held a victim's hair who was cut in her face and needed 50 stitches.
"At this point, the investigation is concluded, and now we have to win it in court," said Moses.
Those who watched the video were stunned at the bold, daylight crime.
"Don't make no sense how violence is like that," said one woman.
Police say the teen arrested Thursday also stabbed someone in Cherry Hill four days before the fight on the light rail tracks.
"When we attempted to ask her questions, she did request a lawyer. At that point, the questioning ceased, and that's the case," said Moses.
In court Thursday, it was revealed Carter knew the Cherry Hill victim. The victim was stabbed six times in the shoulder and taken to Harbor Hospital.
Both victims of the attacks survived.
"These are very frightening allegations, and I can only conclude she is a risk to public safety," the judge said Thursday afternoon.
Police arrested Carter without incident. Police say Carter does not have a prior arrest record.
