Lawyer Wants Slaying Case Moved To Juvenile Court

TOWSON, Md. (AP) ―

The lawyer for a Towson teenager accused of fatally beating his mother with a baseball bat wants to have the youth's case moved to juvenile court and have his confession erased from court records.

Shanell Harleston, who represents 16-year-old Lewin Powell III, also wants him to undergo a psychological evaluation.

Powell is accused of killing his mother, Donna Campbell-Powell, and attacking his father on May 13 at their home in Towson.

He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

Harleston says Powell was not advised of his right to a lawyer before he confessed.
