Phillies To Sign Deal Soon For Former O's Pitcher

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) ―

The agent for former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kris Benson says they may reach a deal with the Phillies in the next 36 hours.

Gregg Clifton told The (Wilmington) News-Journal on Tuesday he might be close to finalizing a contract for Benson. Clifton says he has been negotiating with Phillies Assistant General Manager Ruben Amaro.

He says his experience with past negotiations means they're probably about 24 to 36 hours away from signing a deal.

The 33-year-old pitcher would be competing for the Number 5 starting spot with a 4.34 ERA over seven seasons. He missed most of last season after having shoulder surgery.
