Ken Harris' Mother Continues Her Son's Fight

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― One Baltimore City mother continues the fight her son was not able to finish.

Adam May talked to former Baltimore City Councilman Ken Harris' mother, Sylvia Harris.

"My son overcame every statistic that one can imagine to arrive at a destiny that Jesus did.  Jesus was murdered," said Harris.

Sylvia Harris and her sister Patricia have a mission that they plan to accomplish.

Ken Harris was a different child; he spent his time feeding hungry neighbors.  He grew up poor financially but rich in sprit.

"I knew that he was special and that he would do special things, but I had no idea of the impact he would have on his community," said Harris.  "He's a man who died with integrity, died with character, he died with commitment, he died with love, he died on a mission to make life better for others.  He had already accomplished in his own life, but he knew there was so much more that he could offer to others," said Harris.

Hundreds turned out for Harris's funeral last week.

The former city councilman was shot to death leaving The Haven Lounge. Police are still searching for the masked gunman.

Sylvia has a message for the killer.

"They have to look within themselves and realize, they're unloved, but we want to offer them love, and we forgive them from the bottom of hearts.  We forgive them because they could only do what God chose them to do," said Harris.
