People throughout the city of Baltimore are grieving about the murder of former City Councilman Ken Harris.
Mike Schuh reports grief is turning to anger as friends plead for Harris' killers to come forward.
"If I had a black flag that I could just put across the city of Baltimore, I would. let the city, let the world know that we've lost a great leader," said Rev. Charles Neal.
People from all over Baltimore City stop to remember Ken Harris, a man who worked tirelessly for the community.
"To do this to a man who loves the city of Baltimore? You can't explain that. There's no explanation for that," Neal said.
Shortly before 2 o'clock Saturday morning, Harris stopped by the Haven Lounge on Havenwood Road to say hello to his friend and bar owner Keith Covington. Police say he was there for less than five minutes when three suspects showed up to rob the lounge. Harris ran to his car to try and get away when he was shot.
"Mr. Harris drove a short distance, lost control of the vehicle," Police Commissioner Fred Bealefeld said. "The car [came] to a stop in a small grassy plot."
Harris spent eight years on the city council; he ran for council president in 2007.
They don't know what to do at the Haven. They don't know if they want to stay open to keep his memory alive or if they want to close for good. The one thing they are absolutely certain about is that they want to find the people that did this.
"God had something much better for him. He took him home. But I hope and pray they find out who did it because that's a senseless murder and that didn't have to happen," said Linda Powell.
"Turn yourself in. Tears fell from my eyes to think that this happened to this great man," Neal said.
Harris' friends tell
Eyewitness News they're organizing a prayer vigil. It will take place at the Haven Lounge later this week.
In a statement, Senator Barbara Mikulski said, "Ken Harris' death is a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Ken got involved in politics because he cared about our city. He was a fighter for neighborhoods and communities. Ken Harris was never afraid to speak out. He solved problems and served the people."
