BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The police commissioner offers some answers on the search for the people responsible in the murder of former City Councilman Ken Harris.

Dennis Edwards has the latest on what the commissioner has found out.

Baltimore's top cop says investigators have all the forensic and data evidence they need to identify Harris' killer, but so far they don't have a match.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld updated a City Council subcommittee as his department comes under fire since 31% of murders this year are unsolved, including the murder of former Councilman Ken Harris.

"What happens in homicide investigations and my own personal feeling of no sense of urgency," said Baltimore City Council Member Helen Holton.

Commissioner Bealefeld reluctantly talked about forensic and DNA evidence gathered from the scene and the mask worn by one of the gunmen.  Harris was shot dead as he tried to get away from one of three armed gunmen who robbed the Haven Lounge at Northwood Mall six weeks ago.

"We have DNA profiles from several suspects at the scene of that particular crime," Bealefeld said.

"If the person's not in the system yet, we need the community to come forward and give as much information as they can," said Sylvia Harris.

But in the end, some council members took advantage of the moment to make their own appeal.

Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake admits the video of the suspects isn't very good, but she believes it's enough to jar someone's memory.

"Someone knows something.  Value life and make that call," she said.

Investigators aren't answering questions about other details of Harris' death.  They admit solving the case could take some time.
