New clues link the deadly shooting of former City Councilman Ken Harris to another shooting at the same shopping center where he died.
Weijia Jiang has the very latest on the investigation.
The men who attempted to rob a Northwood Plaza BP gas station back in January got away with it. Police say nine months later, the same gun they used took the life of former Baltimore City Councilman Ken Harris.
Harris was killed outside the Haven just doors away from BP. Police say the shell casings from both incidents matched up in their database.
Surveillance video is the latest clue detectives released to the public in their search for whoever gunned down former City Councilman Ken Harris.
The three men pictured in two surveillance video tapes are key to the investigation. One of them is seen with a Halloween mask like the one worn by the robbery and murder suspects.
They're called persons of interest. Three men were seen in surveillance cameras outside an ATM in Northwood Shopping Center and a Save A Lot grocery store.
"In the footage, you'll see what appears to be the mask that we actually gave out to the media and to the public being held by one of those persons of interest. The second shot will actually show a profile of one of those persons walking past an ATM camera," said Troy Harris with Baltimore City Police.
The men are caught on tape on the night of Sept. 20 walking along a strip near the Haven. A few hours later, three male suspects robbed the lounge wearing Halloween masks like the one seen in the hands of one of the men on tape. Former Councilman Kenneth Harris walked into the robbery and was shot dead as he tried to get away from one suspect.
"Right now we're gonna list them as persons of interest. We don't know where to gauge them as to what they have to do with the homicide but of course we're very interested in trying to obtain their identity," Harris said.
"If someone actually attacked you with the camera being there, it's all fine and good if they can come back later and see the camera. But my family planning my funeral is not really helping me," said neighbor Melissa Williams.
Baltimore City Police say there is and has been enough police presence in the area. They say the incident at the BP station was handled properly, and was written off and signed off by a supervisor with follow-ups.
Now detectives are focused on finding similar links and trends in other Northwood cases to find Harris' killers.
"Our detectives are still focusing our search in that area, but we're also still going under the idea that they might have moved from that area so our detectives aren't just hardlocked on that area and keeping the investigation there. We are using a large spectrum to try to complete the investigation," said Harris.
In a statement to
Eyewitness News, Harris' widow Annette says, "We're encouraged by the progress City Police are making in the search for Ken's killers. We strongly urge the public to help identify these ruthless criminals so they can be brought to justice quickly and bring closure to this senseless tragedy."
