Towson Man Finishes Miami To Baltimore Kayak Trip

BALTIMORE (AP) ― A Towson man is back home after kayaking nearly 1,500 miles from Miami to Baltimore.

Seth Peichert began the journey in April and finished it Saturday.

Along the way he slept mostly on the beach, lost 20 pounds, developed a leathery tan and grew a thick beard.

Peichert says he traveled about 4 miles an hour and averaged 35 miles a day, encountering alligators, dolphins, cruise ships and a jellyfish that got wrapped around his paddle and stung him.

The 24-year-old who has worked as a kayak guide since graduating from the University of Vermont says he undertook the journey as a personal challenge.
