A Baltimore County K-9 is back to work after being seriously injured.
K-9 "Jett" was seriously injured while looking for a wanted subject, and was saved by the quick thinking of his handler.
On June 4, 2008 at approximately 9:18 a.m., patrol officers in the White Marsh Precinct began a foot chase of a wanted subject in the area of Philadelphia Road and Seling Avenue. They requested the assistance of the K-9 unit. Officer C. Strevig and K-9 Jett, a 2 ½ -year-old black male German shepherd, responded to the area as a back-up search team after other teams had searched the area.
Shortly after leaving the K-9 vehicle, Officer Strevig and Jett began to search the area around a building in the 8100-block of Philadelphia Road. As Jett started searching near a fence, razor wire attached to the end of the fence cut through the brachial artery in Jett's front left leg causing Jett to begin bleeding profusely. Officer Strevig quickly rendered first aid and carried the K-9 back to his vehicle after calling for assistance.
Another K-9 officer at the scene quickly picked up the officer and injured K-9 and responded to the Pet ER located at 1209 Cromwell Bridge Road.
Jett operates in a patrol function of the department and returned to full duty status on Sunday, June 29.
