John Lennon's Artwork On Display In Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) ― He was a world renowned composer and musician, and with song-writing partner Paul McCartney they wrote hundreds of hits. But did you know that John Lennon was also an accomplished artist?

Ron Matz reports you'll have a chance to see some of Lennon's work this weekend.

Imagine all the talent. Some of the works of John Lennon are on display this weekend at the Maryland Inn.

The producer of the John Lennon art exhibit says it is exciting.

"It's really a powerful exhibit for a lot of people, for a lot of different reasons.  John had a very profound effect on the world," said Rudy Siegel.

About 100 pieces of John Lennon's pen and ink work will be displayed.

"He went to the Liverpool Art Institute before he was in the Beatles. So he had some background in classical training as an artist," said Siegel.

You can see the influence of Yoko Ono just about everywhere.  You'll see prints of Lennon's lyrics.  "Imagine" was scribbled on a paper bag.

"I think John Lennon's work is fun to look at.  It's obvious there's a childlike quality to it," says artist Deirdre Schanen, who saw some of Lennon's artwork in Annapolis.

The John Lennon prints are for sale, but there's no charge to get in to the exhibit. A suggested $2 donation benefits the Chesapeake Children's Museum in Annapolis.
