BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Hundreds are preparing to say their last goodbye Thursday morning to former City Councilman Ken Harris.

Wednesday night, family, friends, and Baltimore City residents expressed their sorrow and outrage as they honored the memory of murdered former City Councilman Ken Harris.  Mary Bubala reports a rally and a viewing for Harris.

Thousands spent hours in line to say goodbye to Ken Harris while political and community leaders remembered him by demanding more security at Northwood Plaza.

Lines two blocks long formed outside Huber Memorial Church on York Road.  It was former Councilman Ken Harris' church home.  Now people who never met him and those who knew him well stood outside for hours just to pay their respects.

"He was a great and kind man and we're really gonna miss him and it's a great loss to the community," said Angela Daniels.

Harris was gunned down in his car early Saturday morning by one of three men when he tried to get away during their robbery of the Haven Club at Northwood Plaza.

On Tuesday, 20 detectives canvassed neighborhoods nearby for clues.  DNA tests are underway on a Halloween mask worn by one suspect.  Investigators aren't saying what they learned and won't talk about the kind of murder weapon used.

More than 200 people gathered at Northwood Plaza to remember Harris and to demand more security from the shopping center's owners.

Council and state political leaders called on the owners of Northwood Plaza to provide private security officers until midnight.

"We believe that the security could be a bit more comprehensive.  They really should have a format and a plan," said Sheryl Byron.

While waiting to honor Harris outside Huber Memorial, no one's mind is far from wanting to see the suspects in custody.

"I'm hoping that they find who did it and I'm hoping that if they don't turn themselves in, maybe somebody that knows them will turn them in," Daniels said.

Harris' funeral is Thursday at Morgan State university.
