Winter Storm Hits Maryland, Part 3
|
A former state correctional officer convicted of assaults on inmates has been sentenced to three months in jail.
Jason Weaver, of Cumberland, was convicted of conspiracy to commit assault in September. An Allegany County Circuit Court judge sentenced Weaver to six months in jail, but suspended three months of the sentence.
Weaver, 36, also will be on supervised probation for two years after he completes his jail sentence.
He was among four officers at the North Branch Correctional Institution who were convicted on charges stemming from inmate brutality in March 2008.
Weaver's attorney, Shaun F. Owens, said at the sentencing that his client is innocent and they are deciding whether to appeal.
