Guard Speaks Out About Inmate's Death

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― A correctional guard on duty at the time an inmate was murdered is speaking up.

While only a few correctional officers had access to the victim, Officer Russell Hardesty's attorney says he is an innocent man.

Investigators say Ronnie White ran over Corporal Richard Findley.

Police locked up White at the Prince George's County Correctional Center in solitary confinement.  He had no health problems and wasn't suicidal, yet White ended up a murder victim.

Hardesty was working in the control booth near the jail cell where White was found dead.  Hardesty's attorney says his client did not have a clear view of White's cell.

Officials say White was likely strangled. He had broken bones in his neck and broken ribs. No one has been charged with his death.
