House Raffle Organizers Meet Ticket Sales Goal
MAPLEVILLE, Md. (AP) ―
Organizers of a charity raffle featuring a Washington County farmhouse as a grand prize say they have sold the minimum number of tickets necessary for the event.
The winner will be drawn Thursday during a dinner at the Beaver Creek Country Club near Hagerstown.
The event could raise as much as $250,000 for San Mar Children's Home, a facility for abused girls in Mapleville.
The four-bedroom house is near Big Pool, about 15 miles west of Hagerstown. It was appraised last fall at $390,000.
Organizers had to sell at least 5,000 tickets, at $100 each, to make the raffle worthwhile.
