Hundreds Of Maryland Troops Return Home

PARKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ― After serving a year overseas, hundreds of Maryland troops are home.

Jessica Kartalija
has the latest on the reunion.

Eyewitness News was there on Oct. 25, 2007, as 129 members of the Maryland Army National Guard were deployed.

"I have two young children and that's the hardest thing," said Sgt. Chris Demski.

Now, one year later, as their families eagerly await their arrival, the troops return home.

Then the moment they've been waiting for: mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, husbands and wives are reunited.

The 290th Military Police Company descends from Maryland's 29th Infantry Brigade, whose troops stormed the beaches of Normandy.  This mission took them to Iraq.

The troops first deployed to Fort Bliss, Texas before heading to Iraq.  They were gone for one year.
