Teen Remains At Shock Trauma After Hit-And-Run

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― It's been more than a half dozen major surgeries for 18-year-old Michael Thompson who spent the last month in Shock Trauma after a hit-and-run accident.

Derek Valcourt reports his parents remain at his side.

"We still have a long way to go, but his spirits are a lot better. He's conscious, he's able to talk to us, he's able to inform us what's going on," said Michael's father, Nelson Thompson.

While the road to recovery for Thompson has been a long and slow process, finding the hit-and-run driver who hit him is taking even longer.

The Parkville High School senior was struck by a vehicle when he was walking across McLean Blvd. at a crosswalk near Perring Parkway on the evening of April 1.

Then investigators thought the suspect was driving a U-Haul truck, but police now say they have ruled out the U-Haul truck and its driver.

"Since then, there have been very few leads for investigators to follow up on," said Bill Toohey with Baltimore County Police.

Police and Michael's parents are asking the public for help solving the case.

"They should be looking for anything that they remember from that day or perhaps someone they know, a friend, a relative who came home that day a little shook up, unexplained damage to a car. If there's something like that someone saw, that could be a very important bit of information," said Toohey.

Nelson Thompson hopes his son will be released from Shock Trauma by the end of the month despite a badly damaged left leg.

"As of right now, he doesn't have any movement. He does have sensation in his left leg, but he's not able to move anything below the knee," said Nelson Thompson.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Baltimore County Crash Team at 410-887-5396.
