Fate Of Damaged Historic Building On Hold

CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) ―

Members of the Cambridge Historic Preservation Committee say they don't want to rush into a decision about the fate of a historic home that was heavily damaged by arson.

The panel is deciding whether to support either the restoration or the demolition of the building. The recommendation will be forwarded to city officials.

Members say the structure is secure, so they will give the owners time to consider all options. The owners have 60 days to make a decision.

The fire Saturday at the J. Benjamin Brown House on High Street caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

The home was built in 1790.
