Many Question Whether To Demolish Historic House

CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) ―

A panel of preservation experts will consider Thursday whether an 18th-century Cambridge home damaged by fire should be torn down.

The city's Historic Preservation Commission is set to take up the case of the J. Benjamin Brown House, which was damaged Saturday by what investigators say was arson.

The damage is estimated at $500,000. The commission will consider whether the building should be restored or torn down.

The final decision on what to do with the 1790 building will be made by city officials after they receive the commission's recommendation.
