Man Stopped With $4M In Heroin Sentenced

BALTIMORE (AP) ― A federal judge has sentenced a Florida man to 10 years in prison after he was stopped with $4 million in heroin on a Maryland road.

Federal prosecutors say 42-year-old Jose Gomez of Orlando had nearly 12 kilograms of heroin hidden in his car when Maryland State Police troopers stopped him in February.

He pleaded guilty to the charges when a state trooper stopped him on I-95 in Harford County for speeding and following a tractor-trailer too closely.

When the officer noticed Gomez acting nervously, a drug detection dog came to the scene and discovered the heroin.

The street value of 12 kilograms of heroin is more than $4 million.
